A place to go on Christmas Day 2016
This year, Christmas Alone on Premier’s family of radio stations was considered to be one of the most successful appeals to date.
All three of our stations, Premier Christian Radio, Premier Praise and Premier Gospel, carried the appeal for businesses, Churches and charities to tell us what special events they were holding on Christmas Day for the lonely and homeless in their community, and by close of registration had 271 events registered across the UK, which we all embedded into an interactive and searchable map of the UK.
We benefited this year from endorsements from high profile Christians Philippa Hanna, Paul Baloche, All Sons and Daughters and author and preacher Max Lucado, who added their voices and stories to why loneliness is something that really needs to be tackled and is worse at Christmas time. On top of all this, we received notable endorsements on social media, with countless Twitter retweets from people including journalist Eamonn Holmes; and shares on Facebook of our map once it was in place. This year’s appeal also got picked up by the Huffington Post, who covered our campaign and ran the story featuring the live map on all their social media channels and news sites.
In addition to our own appeal to tell us what special events people were holding on Christmas Day for the lonely and homeless in their community, we worked alongside Community Christmas who run a similar appeal to us and work with a number of secular charities that we wouldn’t usually have access to. We were able to share resources and information with them to make sure that when people came to us for help in finding them somewhere to go on Christmas Day we were able to find somewhere between our shared resources. We are also grateful to them for providing the audience with a Freephone telephone number for those unable to use the online interactive map resource we had produced.
