Action for Children urges more help for vulnerable young people

Action for Children says it's joined with Barnardo's, The Children's Society, NSPCC and Save the Children to present a united front.

They want political parties to include plans to boost spending for vulnerable children in their manifestos ahead of the 2015 election.

It comes as a new study shows nearly 80 per cent of the British public see no signs of improvement for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children who are at risk of serious issues such as neglect, poverty, bad health or homelessness.

The poll of more than 2,000 British adults found that around 25 per cent think the future will get worse and 54 per cent think it will stay the same.

Sir Tony Hawkhead, chief executive of Action for Children, said: "Waiting too long to help children and families in need has a dire human cost and sentences them to a bleak future.

"Spending time and money preventing a problem rather than repairing the damage is the right thing to do - but councils face another 10 per cent cut in vital funds."
