Body found could be Joy Morgan's

by Cara Bentley

Shofah El-Israel was convicted of Joy Morgan's murder in August this year although no body was found by the time of the trial.

The midwifery student attended the extremely private church, Israel United in Christ church, in Ilford in East London that taught that only black people could be saved and that they were the real tribes of Israel. They gave members new names and refused to celebrate Christmas and traditional Christian festivals.

The 20 year old woman attended a church party on 31st December 2018 and was then not seen for several weeks. She was reported missing on 7th February, with her mum only being aware of her absence when Joy's landlord said she had not paid her rent.

Shofah El-Israel was a member of the church who had spent time alone with her, something the church forbade.

Hertfordshire police said in a statement that the remains could be hers, saying: "Police were called by a member of the public at 7.43am on Saturday 5 October to report they had found what they suspected to be a human body, in woodland off Chadwell Road, Stevenage.

"No identification has been made at this time but officers are exploring a line of inquiry that it could be Joy Morgan, who was reported missing in February.

"Joy's family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. They have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time."

A post mortem was due to take place on Tuesday and identification of the body is expected to be by the end of this week.
