Catholic Church vows support for Leeds school after teacher death

A 15 year-old boy has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with her murder.

The 61 year-old's family have released a statement describing her as their 'shining light' who brightened the world for so many: "A loving wife, the best mother, a treasured sister, a true friend. This horrific happening has robbed us of all of this and so much more.

"We are devastated. Her selfless, genuine, caring nature will remain with us eternally.

"We are overwhelmed by the support, sympathy and kind tributes we have received, they have been a source of great comfort at this dark time.

"We would ask the media to kindly respect the privacy of family and friends in the coming weeks and months.

"Ann we will love you always, your loving family."

Six councillors from support organisation Catholic Care are at the school.

Spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Leeds, John Grady, told Premier's News Hour, help will be available for as long as it's needed.

Pope Francis has given his condolences to the family of Mrs Maguire. A letter, sent by his ambassador in Britain, praised her services to young people and education. Relatives laid flowers at the gates of the school in Leeds where she was stabbed to death.
