Christian street preacher set for trial

The evangelist, who was with three others at the time, was dragged away by police outside the Broadmead shopping centre and later charged with a religiously aggravated public order offence.

Police claimed the 52 year old was challenging homosexuality and Islam, and upsetting the peace.

After refusing to leave the area, he was then arrested, amid cheers from the crowd.

Whilst it is unclear exactly what was said to draw the attention of the police, the Bristol Post reports that witnesses heard the preachers stating "all Muslims will burn in hell" and that "Allah does not exist".

Mr Overd is being supported by the Christian Legal Centre.

He will appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court alongside two friends - Adrian Clark and Michael Stockwell. The hearing is scheduled to last four days.
