Christian student "to contest expulsion"

Felix Ngole, is due to appear before a Fitness to Practise Committee at Sheffield University on Wednesday, 23, March, the Christian Legal Centre (CLC) has revealed.

The 38-year-old postgraduate was removed from his programme after his involvement in a discussion on the internet about US civil servant Kim Davis who refused same-sex couples marriage licences even though the law had changed allowing it.

Ngole indicated his opposition to gay marriage and posted on his Facebook page part of Leviticus 20:13 which reads: "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination."

A complaint was made and Sheffield University's Fitness to Practice Committee - which interprets guidelines set by a national body accrediting social workers - ruled he was not fit to practice.

Commenting on the announcement Felix Ngole has been given the opportunity to appeal his case, the CLC said: "Thank you for praying for Felix Ngole.

"Felix was removed from his social work course after he made comments on his personal Facebook page in support of biblical teaching on marriage.

"He was told that his comments would "affect his ability to carry out his work". Please pray for Felix and the Christian Legal Centre team as they prepare his appeal."

Speaking on Premier's News Hour last month when the case came to light, Felix Ngole said: "I'm a Christian. What I said on that Facebook page is actually my view, as a Christian, and I don't think that will ever change.

"I stand by everything that I put on Facebook on that particular day.

"I'm not the only Christian social worker... If the university succeeds in this, it will put them in a position where they cannot actually air their Christian views, and I don't think that is right at all."
