David Bowie classic played at St Albans Cathedral

St Albans Cathedral has paid tribute to singer David Bowie by playing a classic hit on the organ.

The star died on Sunday at the age of 69 following an 18 month battle with cancer.

Madonna, Brian May and Iggy Pop are among the big names who have been paying tribute to the singer and actor.

The organist at the cathedral performed "Life on Mars". A video posted on YouTube has gone viral with more than 33,000 views.

Users have left comments praising the performance.

One said "fantastic ... there's another unique star in the sky tonight" while another said "love this so much! Great tribute".
