Footballer Jamie Redknapp reveals daily texts trying to bring him to Christianity

by Antony Bushfield

Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Eboué - also famous for a stint at Arsenal - sends him texts about God every morning, he said.

Speaking on Sky 1's A League of their Own, he said he knew Eboué through his son's football team.

"Can I honestly tell you... he wants me to become a Christian and he keeps sending me these messages about turning to God," he said.

"I don't even know him and every day I get a thought for the day."

Host James Corden, who was brought up in a Christian family but has since distanced himself from the faith, asked Redknapp to read one of the thoughts for the day.

The footballer replied: "Do you think that you've failed, that you've failed your life? With God it is never too late to make a new start."

"Why's he picking on me?" He joked.

Corden replied: "He's got a point. I like it, I like his vibe."

Eboué, 32, signed for Sunderland in March but hasn't played since he was handed a one year ban for failing to pay a former agent.

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
