Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey, is calling on British Muslim leaders to speak out against strict apostasy laws in other countries.
He made the comments after a pregnant woman in Sudan was sentenced to death last week for denouncing her Muslim faith and marrying a Christian man.
He told the Sunday Times: "Isn't there something fundamentally wrong with Islam at its core that it cannot allow people to change their religion? "It is accepted doctrine in Islam [that] you don't convert and if you do the penalty may be death. I want to hear Muslim leaders say 'we allow Muslims to become Christians if they wish to'.
Julian Bond from the Christian Muslim Forum told Premier's News Hour the case has led to some interesting discussions on its Facebook page.
Parvaneh Nicholson, who's Iranian, told Premier's Woman to Woman about her conversion experience.
Meriam Yahya Ibrahim was born to a Muslim father but raised as an Orthodox Christian by her mother.
The 27 year-old, who's 8 months pregnant, has been charged with apostasy - which means leaving the Muslim faith, and adultery because she married a Christian man.
Last week she was sentenced to death by hanging but it has been suspended until she has given birth.
