Schoolboy becomes Oxford's youngest ever organist

Louis Moss (pictured above), from Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, began playing the piano when he was six but switched instruments only a year ago.

He has been granted a scholarship at Jesus College where he will perform hymns at services.

Louis is thought to be one of only 750 young organists in the UK.

He said: ""It is great to play such an amazing instrument. I am looking forward to improving further through my organ scholarship at Jesus College."

Sir Nigel Shadbolt, principal of Jesus College, said: "We are delighted to have Louis with us.

"By starting a young music scholarship scheme here - the first of its kind in an Oxford or Cambridge college - we are creating more opportunities to connect local state schools with Jesus College, through music."

The scholarship scheme, run in conjunction with the Young Organ Schloars' Trust hopes to encourage more young people to take up the instrument.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
