The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, is at St Mary's Church in Llansawel near Swansea to commemorate the creation of the Neath Ministry Area.
Seeing seven churches across two parishes in Neath, Llansawel and Briton Ferry sharing three priests, the Area forms part of a major shake-up within the Church in Wales.
Speaking about it's 2020 Vision strategy for growth, the Church in Wales said: "Traditional parish boundaries are being redrawn to make much larger areas which will be served by a team of people, both lay and cleric."
Dr Barry Morgan said: "The town of Neath and the community of Llansawel, Briton Ferry form a natural Ministry Area since they belong together geographically and sociologically. I am delighted therefore that the team at Neath will also be responsible for Llansawel, Briton Ferry."
Area Dean, Canon Stephen Ryan: "We're coming together to share pastoral support and care and find news ways of serving the whole area.
"We already share a lot of work so this is the natural next step for us. We're very excited about developing new ventures of ministry, such as 'Messy Church' for young children, and expanding the churches' very successful Community Shop in Briton Ferry.
The seven churches that make up the new Neath Ministry Area are St Mary, St Peter and St Paul (pictured above), St Thomas, St Catherine, St David, St Teilo and St Illtyd.
