Sturgeon 'knows Church's place in society'

Nicola Sturgeon is due to replace Alex Salmond as the leader of the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday.

Mr Salmond stood down following the 'no' vote in September's independence referendum.

SNP members will hear from the Ms Sturgeon at the party's conference in Perth today where she's expected to outline her policies.

Christian SNP MSP John Mason told Premier she wouldn't 'out and out' support the Church but neither would any leading politician.

But he added: "I think she's very pragmatic and she's personally be very supportive of me despite the fact her personal views and mine would be different on a number of issues - especially on faith.

"But she's pragmatic that the Church is a major player in society and I've seen nothing to think she will not be positive about that."

Alex Salmond had previously worked hard to bring more Catholics to support his party, especially at the independence referendum.
