Theologian calls on Christians to embrace Halloween

Previously, he believed it was wrong for Christians to celebrate the festival but told Premier's Inspirational Breakfast: "I used to be a complete abstainer, worried about evil influences on the children and the dark side.

"I did a bit of research into the history of Halloween and of course it was a Christian festival and it's short for 'All Hallows 'een,' or Eve, which is the night before All Saints Day.

"People parading down the streets in different costumes - that was created by the church as a way of mocking death, evil spiritual forces - as a way of saying Jesus has won and there's nothing to be afraid of.

"So I wonder if it's a missed opportunity if we completely abstain from the festivities.

Krish Kandiah's comments come as the Catholic Church called for Halloween to be abandoned and replaced with 'Holyween', where children pray and dress as saints.

They said Halloween marks an increase in Satanist activities and people converting to Satanism.
