'Car bomb' driven into Christian lobby group HQ in Australia

by Antony Bushfield

The vehicle exploded after hitting the Australian Christian Lobby building in Canberra with the organisation's managing director calling it a "car bomb".

No staff were injured in the incident and massive police response has been triggered.

Lyle Shelton tweeted in the aftermath of the incident and said he was "shocked that this could happen in Australia".

He said prayers were appreciated.

Police believe a man drove the vehicle into the  Eternity House building and say the power of the explosion blew out windows and has destroyed the van.

The driver's identity and condition are not known.

Australian Capital Territory Police said there were "no public safety issues".

The Australian Christian Lobby has been a vocal voice in the country in recent months amid the campaign for a gay marriage referendum.
