Christian rugby player, Israel Folau's has been found guilty of a "high-level breach" of Rugby Australia's players' code of conduct for comments he made on social media about gay people last month.
The Australian international posted "hell awaits" sinners including homosexuals on his Instagram account.Officials will now decide what punishment he'll face.Termination of the 30-year-old's contract is now a possibility.Lawrence Wilkinson from the religious freedom charity ADF International has raised concern over the way Folau is being treated.Speaking to Premier, he said: "It raises the bigger question in sport more generally, to what extent are we happy for sportsmen to state their views on contentious issues and that's the question that this case will feed into."I think if he is sacked for this, then you have a real problem for freedom of expression for sportsmen."For Christian sportsmen, I think it's going to make them really be concerned about what ability they have to speak up on their faith and what they view on what the Bible is saying is sinful or not."Stay up to date with the latest news stories from a Christian perspective. Sign up to our daily newsletter and receive more stories like this straight to your inbox every morning.
