Justin Bieber began a concert in Australia on Wednesday night by revealing a Christian message on stage.

The international pop star started his performance in Sydney by being lowered onto the stage in a clear box.

A hand-written note in yellow ink on the side of the box read "Mark my words, Jesus loves you".

Increasingly vocal about his religious beliefs in recent years, Bieber has also been seen spending time with leaders at Hillsong and other young Christian leaders.

The show on Wednesday night - part of the 23 year old's Purpose tour - attracted 50,000 to the ANZ Stadium, which was sold-out.

During the French leg of the tour, he spontaneously broke out into a rendition of gospel song I could Sing of Your Love Forever.
