Talks between Israeli and Palestinian officials aimed at agreeing on a more lasting end to violence are continuing to take place in Egypt.
But the new five-day ceasefire has got off to a shaky start.
As the deal was announced in Cairo, Israel carried out retaliatory strikes on Gaza, after several rockets were apparently launched from the territory.
Hamas has denied firing - and accused Israel of violating the new deal.
Dr Salim Munayer heads up the charity Musalaha working for peace in the region.
He told Premier's News Hour people on the ground just want the violence to stop.
Calling Christians to pray, he said: "Pray for the peacemakers, blessed are the peacemakers.
"We as Christians need to remember that both Jews and Palestinians are made in God's image.
"God loves humankind, God created us to enjoy his creation and live with each other."
Speaking about the ongoing discussions on a lasting truce, Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said his country does want a long-term solution to stop the violence.
Talking about the current ceasefire he said: "We hope it continues and we hope it's extended.
"Israel is ready for an unconditional, ongoing ceasefire...but what we won't accept is that they continue to shoot rockets"
Around 2,000 people have been killed since the conflict restarted in July.
Around 1,900 of them are civilian Palestinians according to the UN.
It's understood 64 Israeli soldiers have been killed.
