What is Capital Vision 2020?

On Thursday 6th June 2013 representatives from every parish in the Diocese of London gathered in St Paul’s Cathedral to formally launch Capital Vision 2020.

Capital Vision 2020 is a vision for serving Jesus Christ in London more confidently. Over 1500 people, led by Bishop Richard Chartres, have played a part in framing this vision over the last twelve months.

Capital Vision has three major themes:

• to be confident in living and speaking the gospel of Jesus Christ

• to compassionately serve our communities with the love of God the Father

• to creatively reach new people and places with the good news in the power of the Spirit

London is the only Church of England diocese growing numerically but there are still many, especially young people, who are unfamiliar with the Christian gospel. Capital Vision will call London’s Anglicans to move out of their comfort zones to reach out to them and bring them to know Christ. This will involve creative action to renew existing churches and plant new ones where they are needed.

London Stories

What is the Spirit saying to us in the life of London?

Prayer points

• Praise God for an example you know of the Holy Spirit at work in London

• Pray that the process of developing a vision would engage as many churches as possible

• Pray that as a result we would both celebrate the local and rejoice in the bigger picture of London beyond our parishes

• Pray for God to grant clarity to those directly involved in focussing the vision into memorable priorities

• Pray for our Bishops to discern both the challenges our city brings to us and God’s concerns for London

Generous God you have called us to be salt and light in this great city; Guide us by your Holy Spirit to discern your will for your Church as we seek to follow your Son Jesus Christ in loving and serving our neighbours. Give us the wisdom and strength to fulfil the vision you put before us and help us to play our part in transforming our earthly city into a sign of the Heavenly Jerusalem where you live and reign, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, One God now and forever, Amen.
